LISTEN: GREEN DAY DROP 'BANG BANG' AND ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM; THE 1990S ARE BACK

2016 is shaping up to be the year that punk rock makes a comeback. First Blink-182, then Sum 41 and now Green Day have returned to the music scene with the announcement of their new album Revolution Radio. Bang Bang is the first cut off the album.

The track brings a 90s edge back to Green Day’s sound, as well as incorporating elements from their era-defining 21st Century Breakdown. Bang Bang has got a mad bass line, angry drumming and an energetic guitar progression that’ll have you hooked right from the start. I’m really hoping the rest of the album sounds as great as this.

The lyric video screams counter-culture aesthetic, complementing the politically charged lyrics. Bang Bang critiques the culture of mass shootings in America, but what’s interesting is that the track is written from the perspective of a shooter. It’s raw and highly provocative – a much needed slap in the face with the reality of how twisted and psycho American nationalism has become.

Revolution Radio is due for release 7 October.
