WATCH: GOOD CHARLOTTE HAVE A '40 OZ. DREAM' IN NEW MUSIC VIDEO

If Good Charlotte was the last band on earth, I don't know how I would feel about that.

Good Charlotte bring you their first studio album in 6 years: Young Authority. The first track off that album, 40 oz. Dream, is a funky blend of pop and punk that fans, old and new, will love.

Good Charlotte's nostalgic lyrics take you back to the days when MTV still had rappers, Eazy-E, and there were "More girls and more grunge/ and bottles and more fun". They jokingly comment that "All the punk rockers are over 40" and performing parental duties; a stark contrast to their junkie days gone by. It's a bit before my time, but I also lament the days when punk was in its prime.

The verses were too pop and not enough punk for my liking, and I wish the drums had more of a presence throughout the track. But the guitar riff underpinning the chorus is awesome. It's just like the Good Charlotte I remember listening to.

Good Charlotte are back with the same humour, sarcasm and pop-punk vibes we remember them for. 40 oz. Dream is the perfect way to kick off their new album and I can't wait to hear the rest of it.

Young Authority will be released 15 July.
