WATCH: "THE BIRTH OF A NATION" Teaser Puts the Leash on Slavery in America

'The Birth of a Nation' is based on the real life story of slave boy turned preacher Nat Turner, who was solicited to quell dissent from uncooperative slaves. Soon Turner's guilt overcomes him, and he gathers slaves to rise up against their masters.

Purposely using the title of a 1915 pro-KKK film of the same name, the trailers offers us a deep drama with religion, haunting imagery of a child on a leash and action which carries the weight of centuries of suffering.

Written, produced, directed by and starring Nate Parker, on a $10 million budget, 'The Birth of a Nation' is nothing short of a triumph. Too controversial to be backed by big studio companies, we love to see people follow through no matter what the obstacle.

Synopsis From IMDB

Nat Turner, a former slave in America, leads a liberation movement in 1831 to free African Americans in Virginia that results in a violent retaliation from whites.
