RECAP: SILICON VALLEY, S3EP7 – BETAS, GOD VIEW AND DINESH'S 'BOYS'

The beta is here. About bloody time.

In episode 7, we finally see some progress on the Pied Piper platform itself. Its been a rough season for the platform, facing many hurdles along the way and even turning into a box at one stage, but now it’s here and in beta form.

With the invite only system, Gilfoyle invites no one, Dinesh invites his ‘boys’ and Jared, the pimp of Pied Piper, makes his list of people within seconds and also manages to use Gilfoyle’s spare invites too. You go Jared! Monica meanwhile demands Richard to give her a code to the beta as well. Dinesh ‘generously’ offers to squeeze Monica and Richard’s friend onto his invite list seeing as Richard’s is full. I’ve said this a few times in the past weeks, but Dinesh needs a win. I guess his ‘best friends’ moment with Gilfoyle this week is probably as close as we’ll get but he does deserve better.

If your friend Max needs an invite, I could probably squeeze him on my list

Are you sure?

Yeah, I’ll have to freeze out one of my boys but they’ll get it

Gilfoyle makes friends with Kevin to show off to Dinesh. Once Kevin left the shot, we never saw Kevin again. RIP Kevin 2016-2016. The beta on the other hand is more alive than ever, with everyone raving about it except Monica. This was a pretty low blow for him and honestly their relationship throughout the whole series has been a bit iffy. Monica goes from never leaving Richard's side to points where she backstabs him. Luckily she redeems herself by quoting Peter Gregory “I don't invest in products, I invest in people -- and I invested in you.”

Gilfoyle uses god view to find Dinesh’s ‘boys’ and discovers someone at Hooli has their beta, intertwining with the Hooli storyline. Through spying on his employees, Gavin gains access to the beta and shows his team. Gilfoyle takes revenge by shitting on Gavin’s computer. Well not literally. Actually kind of literally. It was an emoji virus of shit so I’m not sure how to classify that.

Also with Gavin’s team now missing key members, it’ll be interesting to see how Gavin plans to compete with Pied Piper, especially now that they’ve had an early launch. Also, I love his needy security guy. A great addition to the episode and honestly the Gavin story lines in the past few weeks have been stellar.

I can put a team on that sir. If you wanna know how–

What?! Why are you so high maintenance?

Do you want me to answer that sir?

No! God dammit! You’re so needy

Finally, Bachmanity has completely sunk. With no way of Erlich to pay off his debt, his desperation results in talks to Laurie regarding his Pied Piper shares and with the way he acted at the end of the episode I really hope he didn’t sell. Elrich selling his shares is heartbreaking for Richard considering they’ve been buddies since day one. Not only that but by selling his shares, Erlich would also forfeit his board seat, which has come in handy on more than one occasion and hopefully doesn’t stir up future trouble.

I told you it wasn’t misplaced. I know exactly where it is. It’s at the bottom of the bay.

Speaking of heartbreak, Gilfoyle had an emotional moment with his server room. Honestly it’s completely understandable considering we as an audience saw the hard work that went into its creation as well as how much it’s done for the crew. A touching farewell and an end of a legacy. The show lifted back into high spirits though with Jian Yang’s prank call at the end to soften the blow from an otherwise emotional end.

Herro Erlich. This is your mom and you are not my baby

This was a completely different episode from last weeks and more in line with the normal style of episodes. Another solid addition to the season and I’m keen for more next week.
