RECAP: SILICON VALLEY, S3EP3 - GOLD CHAINS AND BUTTHOLES

RECAP: SILICON VALLEY, S3EP3 - GOLD CHAINS AND BUTTHOLES

I’m happy to report that there is 100% less horse fucking in this episode. For those who did enjoy it, you’ll have to get your horse fetish fix from somewhere else.

Episode 3 begins deep underground in a server room where Pied Piper’s 'revolutionary' new box is proposed for installation. Unfortunately, in classic Silicon Valley fashion -  Richard, Gilfoyle and Dinesh get lost in the server maze.

Jack pushes Richard to scrap the consumer platform entirely in opt for the shitty box product. Gilfoyle, frustrated with the thought of not going consumer-first, quite Pied Piper and is immediately bombarded by recruiters. His phone blows up and  they offer him gifts in exchange. “More recruiter swag? You got an Oculus?”

On the other hand, Dinesh buys himself a gold chain and becomes the black sheep of the group. Even Jarred cracks in a few good insults and it makes for some great laughs.

If Richard getting his way was easy, this wouldn't be Silicon Valley. “If you're going to shoot the king, you better be goddamn sure you kill him,” Jack Warns.

When Gilfoyle takes a meeting with a recruiter, it turns out to be a combination of N-frame and the Hooli crew. They have cracked middle out and Gilfoyle tells the crew.

Erlich gives an inspirational speech about the founding of America with his own twist “Let’s build this motherfucking country the way we want to” and suggests them to build a skunkworks (a secret company within the company).

They set up a foolproof plan, with everything organised perfectly. It's a 2-3 minute Ocean's Eleven esque sequence that highlights the team coming together and solving a problem. It's reminiscent of when the team solved middle out using the dick to floor ratio and it really highlights the strength of the writing here.

Oh Richard. You fucked up, you miserable bastard.

Oh Richard. You fucked up, you miserable bastard.

But what happens next is heartbreaking. Richard gets distracted as Jared makes another dig at Dinesh, trips over the cleaner’s hose and their plans spill on the floor.

Skunkworks is a failure, folks.
