WATCH: 'THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN' TRAILER IS TEEN GOODNESS, SWEARING INTACT

In The Edge of Seventeen, teachers contemplate suicide with students and Hailee Steinfeld's best friend goes out with her brother.

Funny, raw and screaming of teen angst - The Edge of Seventeen takes us down the all too familiar road of parties, problems, regrets and relationship dramas that make up junior high. Funny thing is, The Edge Of Seventeen actually looks like a refreshing teen drama that isn't just doom and gloom trash.

As if high school weren't bad enough, Nadine's (Hailee Steinfeld) life goes on a downward spiral when her best friend, Krista (Haley Lu Richardson) starts dating her textbook jock brother (Blake Jenner). Interspersed with advice from her crude yet insightful teacher (Woody Harrelson), the rest of the movie follows the inevitable emotional rollercoaster Nadine is thrown on.

I was actually surprised with how original and engaging the storyline was, which is particularly difficult to achieve with coming of age movies. Hopefully the movie retains the same high quality that the trailer has set us up for.

Academy Award winner, James L Brooks looks to bring us a refreshingly honest coming of age story that captures the essentially vulgar yet unforgettable experience that is high school. If the trailer is anything to go off of, The Edge of Seventeen is quite a realistic portrayal of the high school experience.
