Independence Day: Resurgence has a lot to offer and this extended trailer really shows that off. The events of the movie are set 20 years after the original and is a continuation of that story with a majority of the original actors reprising their roles as well as a few fresh faces to join the series.

Liam Hemsworth (even though I would’ve preferred Chris, I’m sure the money they saved would’ve been put to good use on explosions and stuff) is front and centre along with Jeff Goldblum and together they seem to be leading the charge against the alien invasion. Judd Hirsch and Bill Pullman both reprise their roles from the original and as Will Smith did not return to the franchise, they decided to continue his character’s story arch through his son played by newcomer Jessie Usher.

Roland Emmerich (director of Independence Day) returns to the helm of the sequel and from that trailer alone, I can confidently say that this movie will be a worthy sequel to the original. The set pieces look stunning. The destruction is glorious. The alien ships are bigger. Everything is dialed to 100.

But is bigger always better? And is this sequel too late? We’ll have to wait for June 23 to find but one things for sure, this is definitely a movie you’ll want to go to the cinemas to watch.

Synopsis from IMDB:

Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
